John at Fenne

 

John at Fenne (a Fen, Fenner) was born ca. 1455 in Sussex, England, son of Roger at Fenne. He married Joan — [d 11 July 1516]. He paid 6d for land called Honnies and Cuelyn Croft near Gibbshaven on 21 May 1507. He was named in the the Lay Subsidy Rolls for the County of Sussex, the hundred of Lindfield Arch, 1524–1525. His property was listed in the Court Books of South Malling Lindfield, 1527–1530. There is a bronze plaque in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Horley, Surrey, England, in tribute to his wife, which reads:

Of yo[u]r chante pray for the soule of Johan ffenner late wyf of John ffenner gent[leman] whiche Johan decessed the 11 day of July in the yere of our Lord MDCXVI on whose soule [Jesus] have mercy amen.

  2. John [d ca. 1553], husbandman of West Hoathly, Sussex.
