[b 19 Mar. 1935 at Bronson, MI] Marilyn Jean Fenner graduated from Colon Community High School on 4 June 1953. Prior to graduation, she m Alvin Merrill Shaw [b 21 Nov. 1933 at Bronson Twp., MI; d 11 Oct. 1985 at Glenwood Springs, CO] on 22 Mar. 1953 at the First Methodist Church of Colon, MI. Alvin was the son of Ansel Shaw and Elma Franz. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1951. Their children were all born in Sturgis Memorial Hospital.

On 11 October 1985, Alvin was killed in a charter plane crash near White Owl Lake in Garfield County, Colorado, while on an annual elk hunting trip with his friends Donald J. Howk and Norman L. Brooks. The pilot, James E. Reynolds, was also killed. One other friend, Dale Brunner, usually went with them but stayed behind because he didn’t have enough vacation time. Heavy rains and low-hanging clouds likely contributed to the crash. At the time, Alvin and Marilyn were living in Burr Oak, MI; he was a truck driver for the Chicago, Michigan, and Eastern Company of Mendon, MI, and was also employed by the Douglas Manufacturing Company of Bronson, MI.
