ANDREW FENNER AND ANNA
[b 1834 in Kappel, Germany] He was a student at the University of Munich and active in the student rebellion of 1848. He fled to America with a price on his head in the company of Count Yonsky. The Count had been in prison and got out by su[bing his jailer, who then went with him and Andrew Fenner to America. Count Yonsky later lived on Whitesboro Street in Utica, NY. Andrew and the Count remained life-long friends.
Andrew served during the Civil War in Company F, 11th Regiment, New York Cavalry. During the course of the war, his Regiment rode from New York to Florida. He was never injured during his service. He enlisted in the 11th New York Cavalry, also known as “Scotts 900,” on 26 December 1863. He was discharged on 30 September 1865. His son, Charles Louis, was a newborn when he enlisted and a 2 year old when he next saw him. Andrew was a corporal at the time of his discharge.
Andrew later owned butcher shops in Utica and Rome, New York. He lived most of his life with his family, in Rome, New York. He is buried in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Utica, New York, in the plot of his daughter, Ida Fitzgerald. His wife is also buried there. His son, Charles Louis, and his wife, Anna, are buried nearby, as are his grandson, C. Lawrence, and his wife, Kathryn. In 2002, Andrew’s cavalry sabre was owned by Brian Wakefield Fenner, Andrew’s great-great-grandson.

E-125 FRANZ A. FENNER AND MARIE ANNA NEUBERT
[b 14 Sept 1865 or 1867; d 1 Jan. 1942] On 27 June 1896, Franz (or Frank) A. Fenner m Marie Anna Neubert [b 1 Nov. 1877 in Germany; d 3 Aug. 1930 in Rice Lake, WI], daughter of Godfrey and Elizabeth Neubert, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1886. Franz owned and operated the Spring Brook Cheese Factory in Sheboygan until 1912 or 1913, when he moved to Rice Lake to operate another factory, until retiring in 1934. In December 1941, Franz moved back to Sheboygan, WI, and had been living with his daughter Ida for three weeks when he died of a heart attack during a snowstorm.
The education of Franz Fenner was acquired in the district and German Lutheran parochial schools of Sheboygan county. He remained at home and assisted his father with the farm work until he was a youth of 17 years, when he learned the trade of cheesemaking. His energies have ever since been applied to this vocation in which he has met with more than average success. He has always been thrifty and enterprising, and in 1900 he realized the ambition of his early manhood by acquiring a factory of his own. His long years of experience and close observation of the methods followed by his various employers have proven of invaluable assistance to him in developing his own enterprise, which is one of the firmly established and thriving industries of the community. His product being of an excellent quality and uniform grade finds a ready market and he is enjoying a large and constantly increasing patronage, his brand having become well and favorably known to the trade throughout this section of the middle west.
The family attend the services of the Lutheran church of Sheboygan Falls, in which the parents hold membership, and fraternally Mr. Fenner is affiliated with the Equitable Fraternal Union and also carries policies in the North Western and Equitable companies. He is a Socialist in his political views, and has served as school treasurer in district No. 12. —Carl Zillier, ed., History of Sheboygan County Wisconsin (1912), vol 2, p. 432.

E-128 WILLIAM FREDERICK FENNER AND WILAMINA NEVER
[b 24 Jan 1873 in Sheboygan Falls, WI; d 31 Mar. 1960 in Plymouth, Sheboygan Co., WI] William Frederick Fenner m Wilamina Never [b 1 Dec. 1873 in Sheboygan Falls, WI; d 27 Dec. 1954 in Lima, Sheboygan Co., WI], daughter of Joachim Never and Dorothea Kuckenmeister, on 24 Apr. 1897 in Sheboygan Falls, WI. William was raised as a Lutheran but at his death he was a Jehovah’s Witness.
William Frederick Fenner is one of the most prominent farmers of Sheboygan county, a district which is made up of progressive men engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was born in Sheboygan Falls township, Jan. 24, 1873, a son of William Fenner. He was educated in the district schools of Sheboygan township and learned his father’s native language in the German schools of that section of the country. He worked upon his father’s farm until he was 23 years of age, saving his money until he was able to purchase 60 acres of improved farm land in his native district upon which he lived until 1906, when he sold his holdings and removed to Lima township. Here he bought 174 acres on section 3 and on this farm he now resides. He gives almost his entire attention to the dairying branch of his business and is noted throughout Sheboygan Falls township for his stock of pure Holstein cattle. He now has some graded stock but expects to eliminate it entirely in favor of the pure bred within the year. His horses, in which he deals on a small but increasing scale, have gained a reputation which is state-wide, and his stables, now comparatively small, are to be materially increased in proportions in the near future.
Mr. Fenner is a prominent member of the German Lutheran church of Sheboygan Falls, and is active in religious and educational work in this county, with which lines of activity his wife is also identified. Mr. Fenner is at present time treasurer of the parochial school which is affiliated with the church of which he is a member. E-12681 DONALD OSCAR FENNER AND MARCIA ROSE MELIUS
[b 14 Aug. 1934 in Lima, Sheboygan Co., WI; d 14 Sept. 2019 in Sheboygan Falls, WI] Donald Oscar Fenner m Marcia Rose Melius [b 25 Apr. 1936] on 6 Jan. 1962. He served in the U.S. Army, 1953–1956, stationed in Greenland. Donald and Marcia were farmers.
Donald Fenner passed away on September 14, 2019, at St. Nicholas Hospital. Born on August 14, 1934, in Sheboygan, Donald or Donny, as his friends called him, was the son of the late William and Leona (TerMaat) Fenner. He attended Sheboygan Falls High School and then served his country in the Army from 1953–1956. He was stationed in Greenland and worked as a track vehicle mechanic. Following his honorable discharge, he attended LTC and earned a diploma in Tool and Die Making. He worked at Polar Ware, where he also served as a union steward, for many years and farmed with his father until taking over the farm in 1969.
On January 6, 1962, Donny married Marcia Melius, the love of his life. They met through 4-H at the Sheboygan Country Fair. Together they raised six children and continued to grow their herd of registered Holsteins. The farm, better known as Fenview Farm, was awarded the Century Farm designation while Don and Marcia lived there. The farm has now been in the Fenner family for 113 years, and the tradition continues with their son Dan helping with the care of the BueLingo beef herd.
His wonderful sense of humor served him well throughout his life. Donny loved farming, and even though farming is difficult, endless work, he used his amazing sense of humor to lovingly teach his children the value of commitment. He taught them that working hard and having fun can actually happen at the same time. He taught them to make their own decisions and to live with the consequences without complaining if they made the wrong one. His children learned that there is nothing better than the peace found in a cool, quiet barn on a hot summer day or the smell of fresh cut hay. He also taught his children to hate the Polka music he insisted on playing — loudly — during milking. He would say, with such conviction that they all believed him, that cows like this music and will give more milk when listening to polkas.
Don was active in the community and enjoyed being with his many friends doing the things he loved. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting, and was a devoted sports fan of the hometown teams. As a Packers season ticket holder since 1953, he attended many games with friends and family, including the 1967 ice bowl, and really understood the finer points of tailgating. Donny and Marcia attended the Rose Bowl in 2011 to watch the UW Badgers and they spent many hours supporting the Brewers. Sometimes you would hear him root for Detroit or other teams because he liked to help the underdog as well. He was a faithful member of Grace United Church of Christ in Kohler for 55 years and a member of Sheboygan Falls American Legion Post 149.
His passion for farming kept him active in the farm community. As a longtime member of the national, state, and county Holstein Breeders Associations he served on the county board and won the National Progressive Breeders Award. For twenty years he served on the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau Board and was a member of the Eastern Wisconsin Beef Promotors and Breeders Association and the BueLingo Beef Association. He also opened his farm to the community for events such as Breakfast on the Farm and the Sheboygan County Twilight Meeting, featuring national farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson. His favorite Labor Day weekend activity was the Sheboygan County Fair, where he was fair superintendent for 50+ years and helped take down many run-away cattle for the 4-H kids.
Donny and Marcia loved to travel. They made regular trips to see shows at the Fireside Theatre in Branson, Missouri. They also enjoyed attending the UW Marching Band Spring Concerts and in April were able to attend one more. Donny visited all 50 states and traveled with Marcia to Germany, Ireland, Scotland, England, Holland, Mexico, Canada, and the Panama Canal. Although he traveled the world, the Sheboygan County Fair was arguably his favorite place. One week before he entered hospice he attended the Sheboygan County Fair for the last time. . . .
Donald will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We will never forget his smile, his laugh, his pranks, and his sense of humor.
